When we are "healthy," better yet, symptom-free, but we don't lead a healthy lifestyle, we are building up on chronic disease and health problems. Are we guaranteed that by leading a healthy lifestyle we will never be sick? Certainly not. But we definitely have a stronger possibility not to become ill.

What happens if we are already sick, or we have problems like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer, overweight, lack of energy, lack of interest, and others? Well, we can improve our prognosis, prevent other complications, and many times, grow to be symptom-free. More important, we can improve our quality of life. There are many factors that affect our lives that we may not have control over, but one thing that most of us have control over is what we eat.

Once, two people were eating together. One of them would "enjoy" very heavy meals, high fat, high cholesterol, and high in refined carbohydrates. One person asked: "How can you eat like this every week?" to which the response was "The difference between people that eat like me versus the people that eat like you, is that you are going to die healthier than me." (This is a real anecdote)

Wow! Isn't our quality of life worth it? What do you prefer for your future: having to go to doctors all the time, taking several medications with possible side effects that would mean the development of more health problems, more medications or the possibility to feel healthy and fit?

Don't we all work looking forward to a peaceful retirement in which we are able to travel, enjoy our family and people we love, or simply to be able to enjoy the smell of a rose? We all want to have savings for our retirement, and we invest our savings to improve our financial situation. What about investing in our health so we can be able to fully enjoy those financial savings that were not easy to earn?

What about our children? It is our responsibility to look out for their future. Don't we want to be able to send them to college, so they can make a good life for themselves? Then, I ask myself, why don't we take care of how we are teaching them to build their bodies? Why don't we invest in their health?
